Data Design & Architecture

The CLiCC Tool will require a wide variety of data resources drawn from external data sources and user inputs, as well as generated internally. All required data for an LCIA computation will be stored locally in a relational database.  External data sources that are important to a computation will be mirrored locally so that direct computations will not rely on potentially slow outside queries.  This mirroring will occur on a periodic basis using automated tools that extract data from remote sources and process it to conform to a local schema. The local database schema is in early stages of development.

We expect the user to provide the following inputs to the CLiCC tool:

  • Chemical Properties Module
    • User provides chemical name or structure (SMILES)
  • Upstream Chemical Process Module (upstream users)
    • User inputs reactions, kinetics & operating conditions (optional)
  • Release Module (mostly downstream users)
    • User inputs range of production volumes (market size)
    • Intended product applications (optional)
  • Characterization Module
    • User selects geographies (scenarios) to model from menu or inputs own scenario(s)
    • User selects fuel and feedstock (bio or fossil)
    • Weights for impacts (optional)
    • Uncertainty thresholds (optional)
